Art Rickshaw - the organizers of the Unicorn Street Art Festival, 2018 - this year, presented to you the quirkiest, most captivating an magical art festival the city has ever seen - The Kolkata Street Arts Festival, 2019. Designed to be the city's premier art and cultural festival, it was organized on the streets of Hindustan Park, on Sunday, the 6th of January, 2019.
The proceedings were inaugurated by a galaxy of stars featuring the likes of Usha Uthup, Rakhi Sarkar, Kunal Bose, Sharbari Dutta and Subrata Gangopadhyay.
KALFest - a truly unique festival - is the first and only art festival in the country to paint a street for an art event. With over 20,000 people in attendance at the festival, it was a celebration of art the likes of which the city had never seen before.
KALFest 2019 aimed at breaking the stereotypical barriers and unleash creativity of all art forms by using a myriad of colours, uncanny geometrical shapes and art installations. In consistence of our theme of breaking boundaries, we aimed to stimulate every individual to go beyond their geographical, mental and social barriers by widening perspectives.
It served as a platform for upcoming and independent artists and crafters of the city to showcase their artistic acumen. The festival featured an art market, in which artists from all over the country displayed more than 300 paintings, with over 60 paintings being sold on the day of the festival itself.
At KALFest there was something to do for people of all ages from Live Art Workshops on Macrame, Parchment craft and Terrarium making for children and youth to Poetry and Sufi adda sessions for the grey-haired wise.
There were more than 30 food stalls ranging from salad bars, gourmet cakes to pastas and dosas as well as 15 specially curated merchandise brands for crafters and hobbyists alike. In total, more than 50 brands from across the country were featured at KALFest.
To top it all off, there were 10 featured live performances at the festival by upcoming independent artists such as GrooveBox, Harmony Lines to mention a few.
